Eligibility & Benefits
Rhode Island Credit Union is a community credit union. Membership is open to anyone who lives or works in Rhode Island or within 50 miles of the Rhode Island border. As a member of Rhode Island Credit Union, you'll enjoy many financial benefits and always be provided with prompt, courteous and professional service.
The benefits of membership with a credit union far outweigh those with another type of financial institution. Credit unions are not-for-profit, member-owned, democratically controlled financial cooperatives. They are organizations operated entirely by and for their members.
As cooperative organizations, credit unions exist solely to meet their members' financial needs. After expenses are paid and reserves are set aside, credit unions return their "profits" to their members in the form of lower loan rates, higher savings rates and low cost services. Other financial institutions, for-profit institutions, exist to generate profits for a relatively small group of stockholders at the expense of their customers.
As a member, you have a voice and a vote for the members of the Board of Directors. Every member has one vote regardless of funds on deposit. At for-profit institutions, only investors have voting privileges. Customers have no voting rights and cannot be elected to the board.
Membership with Rhode Island Credit Union provides you with a wide range of money saving products and services. You'll find the same financial products with us that you find at other financial institutions. Our products are designed with you, the member, in mind. We are a financial organization committed to offering sound financial products in a professional and friendly environment.
